22 March 2016
Food Standards Scotland (FSS) today (22nd March) published an evaluation of the current Shellfish toxin traffic light guidance.
The project demonstrated that:
- The guidance provides a heightened level of public health protection for consumers of Scottish shellfish
- Fifty percent of food business operators apply the ‘toxin traffic lights tool’, while others used variety of other approaches to manage shellfish toxin risks
- Adoption of the guidance can incur relatively high cost to the industry.
FSS has previously held successful workshops in order to raise awareness of marine biotoxins, and how the industry can manage these.
